Hello! 👋 My name is Jordi and I'm just a regular guy from Indonesia who got really interested in blockchain stuff. I'm not some genius programmer or crypto expert - I'm just curious about how this whole decentralized thing works. Born and raised in this crazy country with 17,000+ islands (seriously, who needs that many?), I've always wondered how technology can connect people when we're literally scattered across the ocean. That's probably why blockchain caught my attention - it's like the internet but for money, right?

My blockchain journey started during the pandemic when I was bored out of my mind at home. I was scrolling through YouTube one day and stumbled on a video about Bitcoin. At first I thought it was just some internet money for nerds, but then I got curious about how it actually works. Coming from Indonesia where sending money to family in different islands can be a pain (and expensive!), I thought maybe this blockchain thing could actually be useful for regular people like us.

Living in Indonesia is pretty wild when it comes to tech. One day you're in Jakarta with 5G internet, the next day you're in some village where they're still using feature phones. But somehow, everyone has GoPay or OVO on their phones! I've seen my grandma in the village suddenly start using QR codes to pay for groceries - it's like she jumped from the 90s straight to 2024. That made me realize that people here can adapt to new technology really fast if it actually makes their lives easier.

So I started running some testnet nodes as a hobby. I've tried maybe 15+ different projects over the past few years, and let me tell you - it's been a rollercoaster! My first attempt at setting up a Cosmos validator was a disaster. I spent like 3 days trying to figure out why my node kept crashing, only to realize I was using the wrong version of Go. Classic noob mistake! But hey, that's how you learn, right? Sometimes I still mess up and have to ask for help in Discord groups. The blockchain community is surprisingly patient with beginners like me.

The coolest thing about blockchain is how global it is. I'm just some guy from Indonesia, but I'm chatting with developers from California, validators from Ukraine, and traders from Singapore - all in the same Discord server! My English has definitely improved (though I still make grammar mistakes, sorry!). It's pretty wild to think that I'm helping secure some network while sitting in my bedroom in Jakarta, and someone in Berlin is doing the same thing. We're all connected by code, I guess.

I try to help other beginners when I can, mostly because I remember how confused I was when I first started. My friends sometimes ask me about crypto and I try to explain it without all the technical mumbo-jumbo. Like, instead of saying "decentralized consensus mechanism," I just say "it's like a digital voting system." I think blockchain needs more regular people like us to get involved, not just the genius programmers who already understand everything.

Beyond all the technical stuff, I like blockchain because it's kind of rebellious. The idea that you don't need to trust some big bank or government to handle your money is pretty cool. Growing up in Indonesia, I've seen how traditional systems can be unfair to regular people. Like, why should it cost me $20 to send $50 to my cousin in another city? That's crazy! Blockchain might not solve everything, but at least it gives us an alternative.

When I'm not messing around with nodes, you can find me reading about new blockchain projects, watching crypto YouTube videos, or chatting in Discord groups. I'm especially interested in projects that actually solve real problems, not just the ones that promise to make you rich overnight (spoiler: they usually don't). I also like writing down what I learn so other beginners don't have to make the same mistakes I did. My documentation is probably full of typos, but hey, it's honest!

My goal is pretty simple: I want to help make blockchain technology more accessible to regular people in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. I'm not trying to change the world or anything dramatic - I just think that if this technology can help people send money cheaper and faster, then more people should know about it. Maybe someday I can help organize some local meetups or write guides in Bahasa Indonesia. For now, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can and share what I know with others who are curious. One step at a time! 🚀

How I Got Here (The Messy Version) 😅

🏝️

Growing Up in This Crazy Country

So yeah, I grew up in Indonesia. You know, that place with way too many islands and traffic that makes you question your life choices. I remember when I was a kid, my dad would take me to traditional markets and I'd see people counting money with calculators while balancing baskets on their heads. Fast forward 20 years, and now everyone's paying with QR codes on their phones. It's like we jumped from the 80s straight to 2024 overnight!

💡

When I First Heard About Bitcoin

It was during uni, and my friend was like "Hey, there's this thing called Bitcoin." I was like "What, like digital money? That sounds sketchy." But then I got curious and started reading about it. At first I thought it was just for buying drugs on the dark web (sorry, that's what everyone thought back then!). But then I realized it was actually pretty cool - like, you could send money without some bank taking a huge cut. That got me interested.

🌏

Why Southeast Asia Needs This Stuff

Look, I'm not some economist or whatever, but I can see the problems around here. My cousin works in Singapore and sends money home every month. The bank charges him like 15% just to send $200! That's crazy! And don't get me started on trying to buy stuff online from other countries. Sometimes the shipping costs more than the actual product. I think blockchain could actually fix some of this stuff, not just make rich people richer.

🚀

My First Node Disaster

Oh man, my first attempt at running a node was a complete mess. I tried to set up a Cosmos validator and spent like 3 days trying to figure out why it kept crashing. I was reading documentation, asking questions in Discord, getting frustrated... Turns out I was using the wrong version of Go. Classic! But when it finally worked, I was so excited. It's like when you finally beat that impossible level in a video game.

🤝

Learning from the Internet

I spend way too much time in Discord and Telegram groups. Sometimes I ask really dumb questions and people are surprisingly nice about it. I've learned most of what I know from random strangers on the internet who were patient enough to explain things to a noob. I try to pay it forward by helping other beginners when I can, even though I'm still learning myself.

🎯

What I'm Actually Trying to Do

Honestly, I just want more Indonesians to know about this stuff. We have like 270 million people here, and most of them are still using traditional banking that's expensive and slow. I'm not trying to change the world or anything dramatic - I just think if this technology can help people send money cheaper and faster, then more people should know about it. Maybe someday I can write some guides in Bahasa Indonesia or help organize local meetups.
